If you’ve been in this business long enough you’ve no doubt run into a time where payment became an issue. Â Whether there wasn’t enough cash generated by the event for an immediate payout or a venue running out of checks (or heck, even a check bouncing later) there’s no doubt you’ve had to get the payment run-around. Â Previously, setting up the ability to take credit card payments was a pain (signing up for a merchant account, monthly/annual fees, high percentage cuts from the processor, etc) but now thanks to Square, it’s easier than ever. All you need is an Android or iOS (apple) device and an account with Square.
Signing up only takes a few minutes, and you can actually start processing credit card payments right away. Â You will receive Square’s card reader in the mail shortly after creating an account and linking it to your bank account. Â I’ve used this a couple of times already and I can see it becoming a valuable business tool! Square takes 2.75% +15 cents per transaction which is cheaper than a lot of other merchants (even Paypal is higher in this aspect). Â Personally I can live with paying out that amount if it means I get paid immediately vs. having to come back/search for money.
